A desk is a beat your paper covers. World, Tech, Science, local sports, AI policy, and Phoenix food can all be desks. The top desk leads the paper. Move desks up or down to change the order. Desks settings showing desk order, sources, story budget, and the enable switch

Desk names

Use short names that would make sense as section labels. Desk names must be unique. Good examples:
  • World
  • Tech
  • Local
  • Science
  • Markets

Turn desks on or off

The switch on each desk lets you keep a desk in your settings without printing it. This is useful for seasonal topics or experiments.

Sources

Each desk can pull from three source types.

Subreddits

Enter subreddit names without worrying about the r/ prefix. The app accepts both worldnews and r/worldnews. Limits:
  • up to 8 subreddits per desk
  • letters, numbers, and underscores

RSS feeds

Enter full feed URLs. They must start with http:// or https://. Limits:
  • up to 12 feeds per desk
  • RSS or Atom URLs

X searches

X searches are search queries for the platform X integration. They are only honored when the deployment has X search keys configured. Limit:
  • up to 4 X searches per desk

Story budget

Stories controls how many stories the desk can print in one edition. Long reads controls how many stories can run at full length. Use fewer stories for tight beats. Use more for broad desks like World or Tech.

Plan limits

Newsstand includes up to 3 desks. Reader and Publisher include up to 12 desks.
